Prometheus – Proton exchange membrane electrolyzer concept for elevated temperatures and pressure conditions

The core topic of the collaborative project is the development of a cell stack for PEM electrolysis that can operate at elevated temperatures up to 120 °C and elevated pressures up to 80 bar and is thus able to open up new fields of application for electrolysis.

The aim of the project is to implement important technological challenges of PEM electrolysis in a novel cell stack design in order to significantly increase the competitiveness of PEM electrolysis and to expand the potential of value creation of this promising technology for the participating partners.

Fraunhofer ISE has been involved in PEM electrolysis for more than 30 years and supports the industrial consortium in this project in various areas of component qualification and stack development.
