Experts come together at the CINES workshop on on-site systems

As part of the workshop on on-site systems organised by the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence CINES, experts came together in Berlin to discuss on-site systems as a building block for a fairer energy transition.

The main focus was on the following two questions in the context of on-site systems:

  • Can RE expansion be promoted through more on-site revenue, participation & acceptance?
  • Do on-site systems enable more efficient grid integration of renewables and higher overall system efficiency through more flexibility?

The aim of the workshop was to bring together different perspectives on the opportunities and challenges surrounding on-site systems, to further develop fields of action and policy recommendations and in this way to jointly advance the decentralised energy transition.

Dr Matthias Kühnbach, Head of On-Site Systems at Fraunhofer CINES, draws a positive balance from the workshop: "Through the interactive, constructive and open exchange with important stakeholders and actors, we were able to critically discuss and refine the results of our research and at the same time identify future research aspects in the field of decentralised energy systems".
