In the project "Long-term Scenarios for the Transformation of the Energy System in Germany" (Long-term Scenarios 3), Fraunhofer ISI, together with Consentec, TU Berlin and IFEU, was commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy to investigate whether and how Germany can achieve greenhouse gas neutrality through climate-neutral electricity, hydrogen or hydrocarbons. The solution space for a greenhouse gas neutral Germany is examined with models and built into a scenario explorer.

Process-specific hydrogen potentials in northwestern Europe

© Fraunhofer ISI

Fraunhofer ISI visualizes the process-specific hydrogen potentials of energy-intensive industry in northwestern Europe. Using an interactive map, the specific energy consumption and the total hydrogen potential per plant-specific process are shown. The sectors considered include among others chemicals, steel, refining, paper and printing.

In the world's first PtX-Atlas, Fraunhofer IEE visualizes the respective technical and economic potentials of different regions for the production of green hydrogen as well as regeneratively generated synthetic fuels. The PtX-Atlas provides answers to questions such as: where could the CO2-neutral fuels be produced sustainably, at what cost, and in what quantities - and what are the costs of exporting them?
